Archaeological Dig at the Second Church Site, 2023
The quest to determine the location of the first site (church) has long been a matter of great interest as well as conjecture.

Montague cherished his friendships with the rectors of our church. In fact, he wrote a monograph for the Syms-Eaton Museum titled, “St. John’s Church and the Ministers I Knew.”

On 18 March 1910, Heffelfinger discovered and excavated the second location of St. John’s Church in an area known as the “Old Graveyard Thickett” on the farm of the late Colonel Thomas Tabb.
