You’ll be warmly welcomed at the door by an usher who can help you find a seat and hand you a service bulletin. Our worship follows the Book of Common Prayer — everything you need is in the bulletin or the hymnal in your pew. Come as you are; there’s no dress code.

Yes. LGBTQ+ people are welcome at St. John’s just as they are — to worship, to receive the sacraments, to serve in ministry, and to make this parish their spiritual home. We are part of The Episcopal Church, which affirms the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in the life of the church, including marriage and ordination. Whoever you are and whomever you love, there is a place for you here.

Yes. We have parking available all around the church, with handicap parking located near the entrance of the church building. Street and public parking are also available nearby in downtown Hampton.

Yes. We have a nursery in the parish house for ages five and below, staffed by background-checked paid staff and open for all Sunday services and Christian Education classes. Children are welcome and encouraged to stay in church too — there are activity bags in every vestibule, and something for children at every service, whether children’s chapel or a children’s sermon. Sunday school, for 2nd through 5th grade, meets at 10 a.m. between the services, September through May.

Yes. All of our buildings are wheelchair accessible, and we have hearing aid devices in the sanctuary for those who need them. We work with the Faith Inclusion Network to keep growing in our accessibility — if there is anything you need, please let us know so we can make your time with us work well for you.

The Episcopal Church is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion — a tradition rooted in scripture, reason, and tradition. We are a liturgical church that values both ancient practice and contemporary engagement with the world.

No. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive the Holy Eucharist at St. John’s, regardless of denomination. If you prefer, you may come forward for a blessing instead — simply cross your arms over your chest.

The Book of Common Prayer provides two forms for the Eucharist. Rite I uses traditional, Elizabethan-era language (‘thee’ and ‘thou’). Rite II uses contemporary English. Both are fully valid celebrations of the same sacrament. At St. John’s we use Rite II for most of the year and Rite I in Advent and Lent.

Yes. Our 11 a.m. Sunday Eucharist is livestreamed each week on our YouTube channel. A link is available on the homepage.

Contact the Rector to discuss baptism preparation. You do not have to be a member of St. John’s to be baptized here, though the clergy expect that you will be attending church regularly and will attend the baptismal preparation classes. All baptisms take place in the presence of the congregation during corporate worship, except in an emergency.

Weddings are currently offered to active members of the congregation — same-sex and opposite-sex couples alike. Weddings at St. John’s are officiated by our clergy. At least one party should be a baptized Christian. Contact the parish office at least six months in advance to begin planning.
