On Saturday, April 24, members of the St. John’s Vestry traveled to Hickory Neck Episcopal Church in Toano to celebrate the ordination of Bob Gay as he committed himself to the trust and responsibility of the life and work of a deacon. It was a joyful service led by the Right Reverend Holly Hollerith IV, our Bishop of Southern Virginia. Our rector, Donna-Mae Siderius, was one of the presenters.
We were honored to be part of such a special, joyful, sacred occasion in Bob’s life and the life of his family. As we celebrated Bob’s ordination, we could feel it was very much a special occasion for the St. John’s parish also. Although we are just now joining Bob in his ministry, it was very clear during the celebration that the Holy Spirit has been working greatly through him in preparation for bringing his service to St. John’s.
The presence of the Spirit was palpable, a bright light radiating through Bob’s trademark calm, steady demeanor and filling hearts with joy and hopeful anticipation of the many good works the Lord has in store for Bob, for those who will serve in partnership with him, and for the sheep God will feed by his hand.
