The Legacy of Weyanoke
What a treat to have The Legacy of Weyanoke perform for us during our June 26th service. Their acoustic voices blended beautifully in our sanctuary. Their music pays tribute to their African ancestors, including those who established in 1619 the first English speaking colony in North America.
Elijah
The story of Elijah and his faith in God has been featured in our recent Old Testament readings from 1 Kings. On Music Sunday, June 5th, St. John’s Choir presented excerpts from the Mendelssohn oratorio “Elijah” during the 10:30 service. Directed by Deborah Carr, this special music featured soloists Marshall Severin, baritone; Hugh Harrell, tenor; and Bill Leath, bass. A duet was also performed by Shannon McCall and Natalie Chiasson, both sopranos. Our guest organist was Dr. James Kosnik.
St. John’s is fortunate to not only have a wonderful soprano soloist in Shannon McCall, but an artist as well. As adult coloring books are all the rage now, Shannon designed a booklet in this style to accompany this musical offering.
