The Music Ministry at St. John’s Church remains an active ministry dedicated to making opportunities for the congregation to offer their God-given talents in all areas of music and drama. I thank the congregation and community for supporting the ministry with their attendance, monetary support and continued greetings as we sail into the future.
The events of the past year are listed below:
Saturday, January 31: St. John’s hosted an Evening of Talent. Singers, dancers, comedians, instrumentalists and the talent from the Boys Home made the evening a delight for all.
Sunday, March 29: St. John’s choir and string quartet offered the annual Lenten Choral Concert, “The Seven Last Words of Christ” by Haydn.
Holy Week services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (April 2 and April 3).
Sunday, April 5: Easter services.
Sunday, April 26: Hosted the Bellissima Women’s Chorale Concert and Reception.
Sunday, May 10: Organist Deborah Carr played the Organ Swell Concert with violist Matthew Umlauf.
Sunday, June 14: St. John’s Choir offered Alice Parker’s Kentucky Psalms for the Sunday services.
Sunday, July 12: Special music by the “Solid Rock Bluegrass Gospel” group.
July 13-17: Helped supply music for Vacation Bible School.
Sunday, September 13: Kickoff Sunday with music from “The Tom Cats.”
Sunday, October 25: Phantom of the Organ program for church and community.
Sunday, November 1: All Saints Evensong Choral Program.
Sunday, November 8: St. John’s Choir was joined by singers from St. Augustine’s, Emmanuel and St. Cyprian’s for the Race and Reconciliation Service.
Sunday, December 13: St. John’s Choir offered a service of Lessons and Carols for Advent.
Sunday, December 20: A service for the Longest Night.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services.
Sunday, January 10, 2016: St. John’s Choir hosted an Olde English Madrigal Dinner and Concert fundraiser for the Music Foundation.
Monthly Taizé services at 4 p.m. on the third Sunday of the months of February through May and September through December.
