Under the able direction of Frank Edgar, Sr. (and lunch provider) the “St. John’s Builders” traveled once again to Chanco Center on the James, and this time built six commercial size picnic tables from scratch. It was an all day event as raw lumber was cut, drilled and shaped. So many thanks go to Nick Heavens, George Cornwell, Bill Mace, Whit McKinney, Sanford Pankin, Frank Edgar, Jr., and Peter Hogg. The tables can seat 8 adults, maybe more youth, and eagerly await the mustard and ketchup “baptisms” that will surely come in the 2013 season’s camp opening!
From the Chanco News: The Elves of St. John’s, Hampton
Yes, Chanco saw Christmas elves a little early! In late November, Chanco’s grounds were blessed with five elves from St. John’s, Hampton. Mr. Frank Edgar and four of his helpers built six large, solid picnic tables. The tables are currently being stored in the pavilion until they are ready for wood sealant and then they will be placed in our newly cleared “picnic” area behind the Manor House. The St. John’s elves worked tirelessly and even donated some of the materials for the tables as well! What a wonderful and generous gift of time, talent and finance! Thanks to the design and the craftsmanship that went into these picnic tables, they will withstand the loving use of campers and guests for many years to come. Without the wonderful time and talent from volunteers like our elves from St. John’s, Hampton, Chanco could not be what it is today. The Chanco Board and Staff would like to extend a large thank you to the St. John’s volunteers for helping Chanco on the James make yet another step toward fulfilling Bishop Hollerith’s vision for Chanco on the James.
