The Church Renovation Committee met on February 18th. Donna-Mae opened the meeting with prayer and information about an upcoming “Church Building Boot Camp” on March 11th. She will attend this seminar in Richmond along with Ron and Carrie Quinn, and Bill Terrill to learn more about the planning and process of church renovations. She also provided copies of an article, “From Vision to Realization,” regarding planning and communication being keys to church restoration projects.
Roof and mechanical engineering proposals were discussed. The Committee decided to pursue slate roof repairs/maintenance this year (along with other tasks such as church exterior painting and wood repair/replacement), and postpone the tower roof replacement until more is known about the plans for the tower renovation and/or the mechanical system replacement. Revised proposals will be sought from the two firms short listed for the respective engineering work.
Stakeholder feedback for a potential church renovation “wish list” is being solicited initially from those groups who participate in the production of the Sunday services. Donna-Mae has already met with the Altar Guild and provided a list of preliminary questions to be answered and forwarded back to her. John Siderius is working with the choir for their feedback. Other such groups will be asked to participate in the coming weeks.
Five architectural firms have been asked to submit fee proposals for the preparation of as-built church drawings and a building code analysis. These proposals will be discussed at the March meeting.
It was noted that the initial brick restoration work is complete. An additional round of work may be considered for 2009 and further discussion of same was tabled.
