Vestry Minutes

Vestry Meeting, June 25, 2013

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

The vestry of St. John’s Hampton convened at 5:30 pm for a light supper and a meeting with Ann Turner, Communication Officer for the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Ann spoke on the “Connected Church” outlining how communication in the Church is not only the Sunday bulletin and sending out a newsletter each month. Congregations throughout the Virginia are utilizing “Social Media” to meet the information needs of the people. In her handout material she went over several ways that communication has recently changed and will continue to change.

First and Foremost is a website that remains up to date and can build a following by telling YOUR story. Facebook, pages, groups, events, possibility site for a Bible study online. Email, more easily shared than print material.

There are several places to use as Communications Toolkit. Such as “ YouTube” as a way to get attention try to keep your message at about three minutes. Other means are “Twitter”; a giant online conversation and Blogging, an interactive online journal, use a team of writers and be prepared to take risks.
