A special meeting of the Vestry of St. John’s Church, Elizabeth City Parish, Hampton, VA was held May 18, 1999 Those present were Frank Edgar, Leo Vaisvil, Connie Heath, Jane Heiby, Vestal Lewis, Lew Vermillion, Rick Harman, Richard Hayes, Dan Clark, Marian Blount, Billie Einselen, Nancy Adams, Letia Drewry, and Elisa Wheeler.
Absent were Keith Hatch and Mac McKinney.
The Vestry, by consensus, rejected Frank Edgar’s letter of resignation.
The Vestry agreed:
- Frank should not resign.
- Frank’s integrity wasn’t questioned.
- There should be changes in the Church/Vestry structure.
- There needs to be an interim minister.
- There can be productive conflict.
- There needs to be confidentiality on the Vestry.
- There is perceived conflict of interest. This needs to be addressed again in the future.
- Ground rules for employee/spouse vestry need to be established.
