Charlie Edmonson, Senior Warden, called the Vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City County to order at 6:30 pm; present were Dan Clark, Junior Warden, Linda Curtis, Treasurer, Kay Olson, Registrar, George Cornwell, Vestal Lewis, Carrie Quinn, Sylvia Edgar, Brian McMahon, Kevin Eley and Thomas Templeman, Youth Representative, Ann Templeman, Valerie Bowen and Douglas Miller. Clergy present was the Reverend Samantha Vincent-Alexander.
Dan Clark opened the meeting with prayer.
Brian McMahon stated the photographs in the Photo Gallery of the web site have been updated.
Minutes of the January meeting were approved as corrected (change open to opened).
Treasurer Linda Curtis presented her report. Linda is going to closely check the non-pledge offering each month to see if it will increase to levels expected when the budget was written. In the report the vestry was instructed to ignore the last column (year to date budget remaining) as the figures are not correct. The Balance of the Old Point National Bank account is $82,491.00.
A motion was made by Dan Clark to accept the amended budget, second by Carrie Quinn. Motion Passed.
Office space in the Hoffman House is available for rent.
The Square a credit card type arrangement was approved in an e-mail vote by vestry for use with the J to A silent auction and dinner. A 2.75% fee will be added to transactions by Square for a usage fee.
Youth representative Thomas Templeman gave a report on the budget of the J to A Pilgrimage to Ireland. Linda Curtis reported a balance of $9,697.00 in the J to A account.
Thomas and Samuel Templeman will be doing a project for Eagle Scouting they will be turning in specs for a project they hope to complete in the St. John‘s Cemetery to earn their Eagle Scout badges.
Clergy Report: Samantha talked about policy for Parish House use. The committee looking into Parish House usage policies will have some information soon.
The Wednesday evening Lenten supper and programs will begin on March 12, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Mercury Blvd. St. John’s and Emmanuel will be alternating the host duties for the suppers.
A memorial fund will be in place to help defray the cost of the palms, lilies, and other decorations for the church at Easter. Parishioners will donate monetary gifts in honor or memory of loved ones.
Vestal Lewis gave a report on the proposed disbursements of the Nickerson Trust funds. Carrie Quinn made a motion to accept the report as presented. Sylvia Edgar seconded the motion. Motion Passed.
There was no old business.
New Business: Charlie Edmonson is planning a debriefing session of those delegates who attended Council.
The proposed structure for the Finance Committee was presented. Carrie Quinn made a motion to approve the plan as presented. Vestal Lewis seconded. Motion Passed.
A vestry retreat will be planned for late spring, early summer.
Dwelling in the Word a study of bible scripture to begin at the March vestry meeting, Samantha will lead the first session and vestrymen will lead in the months to follow.
Meeting was closed at 8:10 pm with prayer.
