The minutes of the regular February 2001 Vestry meeting were approved as corrected.
The following correspondence was read
1) A letter from the Downtown Hampton Child Development Center thanking St. John’s for its $2,000.00 donation.
2) A letter from St. Anne’s Guild endorsing the purchase of the Horseman property.
The Treasurer reported that the bank account balance was $56,454.84 as of the end of February, 2001. He then distributed the budget for 2001 commenting that most of the estimated income is from people who do not pledge but give on a regular basis. Special accounts report was distributed and discussed. Mr. Spratley also said that St. John’s Endowment Fund could help with repairs. He then distributed the Hoffman House financial report and reported that St. John’s is approximately $3,800.00 short of the total cost to replace the roof, air conditioning and heating system of the Hoffman House. A motion was made, seconded, and passed that this amount be taken from the Hoffman House account.
Interim Rector’s Report – Marni Schneider asked about the telephone calls made by vestry members to persons who had not pledged for 2001. She then advised the vestry that the personnel committee had met about staff positions and job descriptions and the committee will interview staff members about their job descriptions. The committee also had interviewed a prospective financial secretary who has been offered the job and will let St. John’s know next week if she will take the job. The Parochial Report for 2000 was distributed and discussed briefly.
The Junior Warden Report was given by Lew Vermillion, Junior Warden, who reported that the work has begun on the Hoffman House. He also reported that a sump pump needs to be installed in the Sunday School basement and this will be done in the near future. Lastly, he asked the vestry to be aware of what is necessary to care for the church properties.
Senior Warden Report – Mr. Edgar reported on efforts to find an Assistant Rector to help the Interim Rector but no one has been found yet. This is a real need because of the number of persons who are “shut-ins.” It was suggested that lay persons might be able to help. The Senior Warden then reported that there will be a Men’s Fellowship Dinner at 7:30PM on March 20th, 2001 and the vestry will prepare the meal for the last Lenten program on April 4, 2001. Lastly, he announced that Bishop’s Day with Vestry and Wardens will be held on March 31, 2001, and that the congregational meeting will be held on the first Sunday in May and we need to start thinking about vestry candidates.
Old Business – none. New Business – The 400th Anniversary Celebration Committee will be commissioned at both services on March 25, 2001.
Good of the Order – The Choir at Evensong has been excellent and more vestry members should attend. The Interim Rector reported that she is having a good time. Vestry members then commented on how many people have commented on the good job the Interim Rector is doing.
Closing Prayers.
Adjournment.
Respectfully submitted, Nelson T. Durden, Registrar
