Special Meeting of the Vestry of St. John’s Church
Tuesday, September 10, 2002
A special meeting of the vestry of St. John’s Church, Elizabeth City Parish, Hampton, Virginia was held on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at 7 PM. The meeting was called to order by Bob Harper, Senior Warden.
Vestry members present were: Nelson Durden, Frank Edgar, Sr., Bob Harper; Senior Warden, Hansi Haufler, Connie Heath; Treasurer, Bill Kirkland, Elizabeth Phillips, Bettyrene Pope; Registrar, Mary Ellen Sawyer, Jim Shoemaker, Eric Stewart, and W. L. (Bill) Terrill, Junior Warden. Absent was: Bill Mace
Also present was Donna Mae Siderius candidate for rector.
Devotions were given by Frank Edgar, Sr.
The purpose of this meeting was to interview Donna Mae Siderius for the position of rector of St. John’s Church.
The interview was lead by Bob Harper. Vestry members asked their assigned questions. Additional questions arose during the interview and discussions ensued.
Donna Mae informed the vestry that she had a commitment of a deadline for September 15th and that she would appreciate if a decision could be made by that time.
The interview concluded. Donna Mae left the meeting.
James “Skip” Hutton, Interim Rector joined the meeting.
The Horseman building was discussed. A decision for a contingency plan from Jan Peters needs to be made. A funding plan also needs to be developed. A committee of Frank Edgar, Sr., Hansi Haufler, Bill Mace, Elizabeth Phillips, and Jack Pope will pursue this.
Skip gave some points for consideration concerning the interview:
- Process- think hard and write impressions down- How did it go? Were there surprises or any issues?
- Time table – Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 PM to discuss the interview
- What is needed now? information or personal information.
Skip advised everyone to reflect inwardly and review the interview.
A closing prayer was given and the meeting was adjourned.
