The regular monthly meeting of the vestry of St. John’s Church, Elizabeth City Parish, Hampton, Virginia was held on Tuesday, April 13, 1999 at the rector’s house at 7:00 PM, the rector being in the chair and the registrar being present.
Those present were: The Rev. Rodney L. Caulkins, Nancy Adams, Elizabeth Brauer, Dan Clark, Wendy Cumming, Peter Dolezal, Letia Drewry, Nelson Durden, Frank Edgar, Sr., Rick Harman, Keith Hatch, Connie Heath, Bill Mace, M.O. McKinney. Lew Vermillion and P. Warren Spratley Jr., Treasurer.
Guests: Bill Boyer and Molly Durden
A motion was made and passed that the guests be given seat and voice at the meeting.

CALL TO ORDER
The minutes of the February 27, 1999 special vestry meeting and the minutes of the March 9, 1999 regular vestry meeting were approved as mailed. The minutes of the March 17, 1999 special vestry meeting were approved as corrected. The vestry withdrew its directive of November 9, 1998 in regard to Evan and Debbie Williams.
Treasurer’s Report was given by the Treasurer who reported total income through March 1999 at $110, 450.00 and total expense were $106,523.00 for the same period. He further reported that there was no income and expense report for the month ending March 31, 1999 because of a computer problem. Mr. Spratley also reported that the bank balance is $41,257.00. The special accounts statement was distributed and explained by the Treasurer.
The Outreach Commission report was given by M. O. McKinney, Chairman, who reported on efforts to raise money for Jackson-Feild Homes. Church members will be given an opportunity to give money on Mother’s Day to Jackson-Feild Homes in honor of their mothers. The vestry gave approval for the participation of St. John’s Church in their fund raiser for Jackson-Feild Homes. Elizabeth Brauer reported on what would be done on Mothers Day. Robert Nicholls, the Executive Director of Jackson-Field Homes, will be the speaker at the adult class on Mothers Day.
Program Development and Assessment Commission. Letia Drewry distributed vestry member Self-Evaluation forms to be completed by May 2, 1999.
CONSENT AGENDA
Bill Boyer, Chairman of the St. John’s Endowment Fund Board of Directors, gave a report in regard to the funding of the purchase of the Hoffman House. See Attachment I. A motion was then made in regard to the purchase of the Hoffman House by St. John’s Church. The motion passed. See Attachment II.
WARDENS REPORTS
Senior Warden — Mr. Mace reported that the landscape plan for the cemetery sponsored by the Huntington and Hampton Roads Garden Clubs has been completed and was presented and explained by the landscape architect at a meeting of the Huntington Garden Club held at St. John’s this date.
Junior Warden – Mr. Edgar reported on the progress of the ramp to be built on the north side of the church building toward the parish house.
Clergy report – Mr. Caulkins reported that the Commission on Ministry decided that Amory LeCuyer would not be a postulant for Holy Orders.

Elizabeth Brauer asked that a letter be written on behalf of the vestry thanking Clifford Hannah at Multi-Print for printing the fund raising material for Jackson Feild Homes.
