A special meeting of the vestry of St. John’s Church, Elizabeth City Parish, Hampton, Virginia was held on Wednesday, April 7, 1999 in the parish house, the rector being in the chair and the registrar being present.
Those present were: Nancy Adams, Elizabeth Brauer, Wendy Cumming, Letia Drewry, Nelson Durden, Frank Edgar, Sr., Rick Harman, Keith Hatch, Connie Heath, Bill Mace.
Absent were: Dan Clark, Peter Dolezal, M.O. McKinney, and Lew Vermillion

CALL TO ORDER
Mr. Mace stated that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss plans for the time of Rod Caulkins’ leaving and the Interim’s coming. He further stated that the church would have sufficient clergy until the Interim comes on July 1st, 1999. Elisa Wheeler will be here until May 23, 1999. Keith Adams will be the supply clergy for the first two Sundays after Elisa Wheeler leaves and Ronald Molrine will be the supply clergy for the next three Sundays until the Interim arrives. Philip Harris will also be asked to assist with healing services until the Interim Rector is here. Mr. Mace also informed the vestry that money has been budgeted for the supply clergy. Mr. Mace also advised the vestry that an exit interview had been conducted, by the wardens, with Rod Caulkins and that the Rector’s Discretionary Fund will be audited. Mr. Mace stated that $5,000 will be in a discretionary fund for the Interim when he arrives. The balance of the discretionary fund will go to the Charitable Trust. Sylvia Edgar and Gwen Cumming will be in charge of the discretionary fund from the time Elisa Wheeler leaves until the Interim arrives.
There will be a reception for Elisa Wheeler on May 23, 1999.
The Rt. Rev. David C. Bane, Jr. and the Rev. Donna-Mae Siderius have recommended the Rev. Richard L. Vinson as Interim Rector. The call of the Interim Rector was discussed. The reports of the vestry members present who investigated the references given for Rick Vinson were given and discussed. A motion was made that the vestry interview Rick Vinson. The motion passed.
A special vestry meeting will be held on April 19, 1999 at the parish house for the purpose of interviewing Rick Vinson if he is available. Mr. Mace also reported that the Hoffman House purchase has been approved by the Endowment Fund and a report will be submitted at the regular April vestry meeting. A campaign for Jackson-Feild Homes was commented on by Elizabeth Brauer.
