May 20, 2025 The Vestry of St. John’s Church, Elizabeth City Parish, was called to order on May 20, 2025, at 6:32 p.m. by Rev. Lisa Erdeljon. Present were Darden Barrett – Senior Warden, Ellen Griffith – Registrar, Scott Curtis, Bob Harper, Anne Rutherford, Andrew Mackey, Ron Kindley, Brad Norris, Rev Lisa Erdeljon, and Linda Curtis – Treasurer. Bettyrene Pope – Junior Warden was absent. The meeting opened at 6:32 p.m. with a prayer. Ascertainment of Quorum: A quorum was present. Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Scott Curtis to approve the minutes from the April 16 meeting as written. Seconded by Bob Harper. The motion was approved unanimously. Approval of Agenda: A motion was made by Scott Curtis to approve the agenda as written. Seconded by Bob Harper. The motion was approved unanimously. Treasurer’s Report, Linda Curtis: This is the first month that actual expenses are higher than budgeted expenses, mainly due to timing on staff benefits and property insurance for Q2. Outreach sent money to Peake Childhood Center. The HVAC was repaired and thermostats were replaced. Special Music was paid for Easter and Holy Week. Non-Pledge and Plate offerings were both over budget, mainly due to Easter. LInda has noticed that due to USPS mail service, we are receiving some bills within a week of their due date. She stated that online Bill Pay is available to us through our existing bank account and no fees are involved to use Bill Pay. This would save the church a very small amount of money on stamps. A motion was made by Ron Kindley to approve online Bill Pay for the Vendors listed below. Seconded by Bob Harper. After discussion, the motion was approved unanimously. Church Pension Fund Episcopal Church Employees’ Retirement Fund Episcopal Church Clergy and Employee Benefit Trust A motion was made by Scott Curtis to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Seconded by Bob Harper. The motion was approved unanimously. Senior Warden’s Report, Darden Barrett: The June meeting the Mutual Ministry Review with Liz Villanueva from the Diocese. Once this step is completed, the Senior Warden can call for a vote on changing the Priest-In-Charge title to Rector. Darden, Bettyrene, and Lisa hosted a meeting of the heads of all of the different trusts/funds. In attendance were the Trustees, Endowment Fund, Charitable Trust, Mary Williams Trust, and Linda as the Treasurer. Currently unsure who is a Trustee of the Nickerson Trust, we are researching this. Personal: Still has not sold her house in North Carolina. Worship: We have 2 Baptisms coming up on June 8 at the 11:00 service. June 1 – Music Sunday June 8 – Pentecost, last day of Christian Formation June 15 – Parish Picnic Sept 7 – Kick-off Sunday Sept 28 – Bishop will visit (Tentative) Oct 5 – Pledging Season begins Policies & Procedures: A couple Ministries/Committees have been formed. Safety & Security – Bob Harper, Al Banwell, Linda McMahon, Patrick Crandol as Parish Admin; Andrew Mackey will assist. Personnel Ministry – Scott Curtis, Bill Beach, and Parkie Rice Stewardship – Betsy Clark, Eric Rutherford, Brooks Holder, and Meade Amory EYC will host their first off-site event on June 1 at 12:30 and will be going bowling. The Security System has been installed and is working. The office spaces are progressing in being ready for their new occupants. Visioning and Planning
The three main focus areas are People, Building, and Logistics. Each group broke out for 10 minutes and discusses the ideas of its members. The groups will email Lisa their ideas.
