The July meeting of the Vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City Parish, was called to order by The Reverend Donna-‐Mae Siderius, at 6:32 pm. Present were Bob Harper, Senior Warden, Bill Brown, Jay Hogg, Dave Foster, Sukey Stephens, Erin Pfeil, Peggy Hayes, John Chiasson, Brian McMahon, Mark Stephens, Bill Rhode, Connie Heath and The Reverend Bob Gay. The Reverend Anna Noon, Rachel Pankin and Bettyrene Pope, Junior Warden, were absent.
Bill Rhode provided snacks and a devotion.
The vestry approved the June minutes as printed.
Connie Heath presented the June financial report.
Connie Heath presented a request for a temporary intra-‐fund transfer from the St. John’s Perpetual Honor Memorial Fund to the St. John’s General Fund to provide additional cash for the checking account during the summer months. The amount to be borrowed was $4,200, which would be repaid to the St. John’s Perpetual Honor Memorial Fund with an interest rate of 0.10 percent.
Mark Stephens made a motion, seconded by Jay Hogg, to approve the request for the intra-‐fund transfer. The motion carried.
Donna-‐Mae presented the annual report received from the Mary Williams Trust. There was a discussion on the intent of the Mary Williams Trust document and the division of monies from the Mary Williams Trust between the cemetery and the church.
Jay Hogg made a motion, seconded by Dave Foster, to appoint Brian McMahon as the new registrar for the vestry. The motion carried. A new registrar was needed due to the departure of Sukey Stephens, who was moving out of state.
Donna-‐Mae requested nominations for two alternate lay delegates to Diocesan council and one delegate to fill an unexpired two-‐year term. Bill Brown and Dave Foster volunteered, and Randy Devlin was suggested as a potential third delegate.
Donna-‐Mae presented a request from the Hampton History museum to continue a loan to the history museum of a historic placard from St. John’s. Dave Foster made a motion, seconded by Erin Pfiel, to continue the loan.
Donna-‐Mae presented a request from the Lay Eucharistic Ministry to use $210 from the Memorial Fund for two Lay reader robes. Peggy Hayes made a motion, seconded by Mark Stephens, to approve the request.
The Junior Warden’s report was received.
Donna-‐Mae presented an update on the Visioning action groups.
Bob Harper will be reassigning members of the vestry care group previously assigned to Sukey Stephens.
Donna-‐Mae presented transition considerations for the vestry.
Bob Harper presented an update on the status of the transition process. The Rev. Charles Johnson has accepted the offer to serve as the transition consultant. The search for an interim music director is ongoing. A candidate for an interim rector has been identified by the diocese. The vestry will meet with the candidate.
Dave Foster made a motion, seconded by Jay Hogg, to thank Donna-‐Mae and John for their 21 years of service. The motion carried.
Mark Stephens gave the mission tacky light to Brian McMahon.
Note: an email vote was taken and approved by vestry members to use a licensed, insured contractor for completing the cellar temporary shoring and parish house access vent work for an estimated cost of $5500.
