The June meeting of the Vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City Parish, was called to order by Bob Harper, Senior Warden, at 6:32 pm. Present were Bettyrene Pope, Junior Warden, Jay Hogg, Dave Foster, Sukey Stephens, Erin Pfeil, Peggy Hayes, John Chiasson, Brian McMahon, Mark Stephens, Bill Rhode, The Reverend Anna Noon and The Reverend Bob Gay. The Reverend Charles Johnson, candidate for Transition Consultant, and Jim Tormey were also present. Rachel Pankin, The Reverend Donna-Mae Siderius, Bill Brown and Connie Heath were absent.

The Rev. Bob Gay opened the meeting with prayer.

Bob Harper introduced The Reverend Charles Johnson, who was recommended to the vestry by The Reverend Canon Michael Spear-Jones as a candidate for a transition consultant to help the parish select a new rector. The Reverend Charles Johnson spoke about his background and what his role as a transition consultant would be, and answered questions from members of the vestry.

Jim Tormey spoke to the vestry about the Civil War 150th Anniversary Commemoration event to be presented August 7 by the Hampton Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee, St. John’s Church and the Hampton History Museum.

Jay Hogg made a motion, seconded by Dave Foster, to enter executive session. The motion carried.

Bob Harper made a motion, seconded by Jay Hogg, to come out of executive session. The motion carried.

Brian McMahon made a motion, seconded by Mark Stephens, to issue a call to The Reverend Charles Johnson to serve as the parish’s consultant. The motion carried.

Brian McMahon made a motion, seconded by Peggy Hayes, to approve the May minutes. The vestry approved the May minutes as printed.

Bettyrene Pope presented a report from the Renovation Committee and made a motion, seconded by Bill Rhode, to approve the expenditure of $1,800 for preliminary structural engineering drawings/specs for the tower roof. The motion carried.

Note: an email vote was taken and approved by vestry members to send the request for payment of $1469 for the replacement alarm system panel in the church to the Mary Williams trustees.

Bill Rhode made a motion, seconded by Dave Foster, to approve dissemination of Nickerson Trust Funds for 2010-2011. The motion carried.

Sukey Stephens made a motion, seconded by Mark Stephens, to approve The Reverend Anna Noon’s continued service during the transition period. The motion carried.

Jay Hogg made a motion, seconded by Bill Rhode, to accept the Letter of Agreement concerning The Reverend Bob Gay’s continued ministry during the transition period. The motion carried.

Bob Harper led a discussion on the status of the Visioning efforts.

Dave Foster made a motion, seconded by Brian McMahon, to receive the financial report as submitted.

Tacky Lights: no tacky lights were exchanged.
