The Reverend Anna Noon led a discussion from the book Leading Change in the Congregation by Gilbert R. Rendle, focusing on Chapter 3, “Systems Theory as a Way to Look at Your Congregation.”
Donna-Mae presented the Parochial Report and requested approval to hear from Bill Boyer regarding the report’s stewardship and financial information section.
Donna-Mae requested the vestry’s approval of the Parochial Report. The Parochial Report was approved.
Bill Boyer presented a financial framework of St. John’s and a description of St. John’s funds and accounts.
The vestry received the Junior Warden’s Report as submitted by Bettyrene Pope:
- John Chiasson and I cleaned out the basement under the church and removed lots of debris, metal that covered the ceiling and side walls, and many different kinds of old brick. We also discovered that there was a possum that had taken up residence because John actually came face to face with him (very friendly according to John). Greg Brauer came to our rescue with a Have A Heart Trap and we fed the critter cat food for several days before he was caught. He is now residing at Sandy Bottom Park. We have also had to put out D Con for rat and mice critters that have left evidence of their presence in the basement. Jack Pope has built new critter proof vents for the church to keep our “unchurched” visitors out.
- Anna Noon, Carol Winarski, Hansi Haufler, and myself spent a Saturday cleaning in the Sunday School Wing the (first room on the left on the second floor). Saturday March, 19th is a scheduled day to clean out the costume closet.
- Regular maintenance has been attended including the changing of a few light bulbs.
The vestry received the Renovation Committee Report as submitted by Bettyrene Pope:
- The Committee met on February 17, 2011. The glass laminate for the round window to the right of the organ has yet to be replaced but do not have an anticipated date for installation. The repainting of the steps to the Sunday School wing has been done but needs touch up work to the mortar. The access hole that was uncovered was to be covered with a new vent. The vent configuration is being redesigned. Q Design, our architects plan to have some preliminary plans to show the committee at our March 24th meeting.
Donna-Mae provided information on the Church Pension Fund.
Donna-Mae requested the vestry’s approval to use $225 from the Memorial Fund to restore the historical sampler that was taken from the museum for evaluation. Sukey Stephens made a motion, seconded by Dave Foster, to use $225 from the Memorial Fund to restore the historical sampler. The motion carried.
Donna-Mae presented the results of polling the vestry members for their individually prioritized visioning goals.
The vestry discussed ideas for ways to move forward with developing a process for implementing visioning goals. The vestry decided to dedicate April 2nd as a vestry day to work on developing a process.
Donna-Mae requested volunteers from the vestry to design the vestry day on April 2nd. Dave Foster, Bill Rhode and Mark Stephens volunteered. Bettyrene volunteered to organize the food.
Tacky Lights: Bob Gay gave the Dr. Chuck light to Brian McMahon, and Sukey gave the Mission light to Erin Pfeil.
The meeting was closed with a service of Compline led by The Reverend Bob Gay.
