The vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City Parish, was called to order on February 20, 2024 at 6:30 p.m Present were: Senior Warden Bill Beach, Treasurer Linda Curtis, Registrar Lynn Kirkland, Anne Abraham, Darden Barrett, Ron Kindley, Jim Klotz, Brad Norris, Elizabeth Zimmerman, and The Reverend Mark Riley. Absent: Junior Warden Jay Hogg
The meeting opened at 6:30 p.m. with a prayer.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the January meeting were approved with the correction of the Associate Rector’s name.
Treasurer’s Report, Linda Curtis
Linda indicated that the 2023 year closed with a $75,000.00 surplus which will be put into reserve. Linda presented the 2024 budget, see attached. A motion to accept the 2024 budget was made by Ron Kindley and seconded by Anne Abraham. The motion was approved unanimously.
Rector’s Report: On Hold
Associate Rector’s Report, The Reverend Mark Riley
- Summary/update since last meeting – Sunday updates – 15% above last year’s numbers at this time.
- Stewardship Update / Latest Status – No update at this time.
- Blood Drive – Potential Spring Date – There are a few drives during the month of March so we are looking for another month where participation will be higher..
- Racial Healing Workshop: Scheduling – The next closest workshop will be held April 27, 2024 at Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown, VA.
- Annual Council / Shrove Tuesday /Ash Wednesday / Lenten Noonday – Annual Council passed one resolution, changing “Council” to “Convention”. Stewardship was the focus: Time, Talent, Treasurers and Terrain./ Shrove Tuesday was very successful with 96 people in attendance and donations covering the cost of the event./ Ash Wednesday had good numbers at both services./ Lenten Noonday services will be held on Wednesdays in the Chapel.
- Service Update: Men’s Group / Wednesday Night Lenten Program – Men’s Group meets every other Tuesday at 8:00 AM with a consistent 8 or 9 men. They each take turns providing a program or information looking for outreach projects. The end of the year picnic will be combined with an oyster roast in May./ Wednesday Night Lenten Program begins on Wednesday February 21, 2024 at 5:00 PM at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. A schedule is attached.

- The annual meeting will be held April 21, 2024 with one service. There are 3 vestry openings. Several people have shown an interest.

- The Invite Committee has scheduled a Newcomers gathering for March 12, 2024, 6:00- 7:30 PM in the parish hall.
- Christian Formation is hosting coffee hour February 25, 2024
