The vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City Parish, was called to order on June 15, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. Present were: Senior Warden Charlie Edmonson, Junior Warden Bettyrene Pope, Anne Abraham, Greg Brauer, Dan Clark, Jay Hogg, Doug Perry, Elizabeth Zimmerman, Registrar Emily Klotz, Treasurer Linda Curtis, The Reverend Samantha Vincent-Alexander, and The Reverend Mark Riley. This meeting was held in St. John’s parish house.
The meeting opened at 6:30 p.m with a reading from the book of Psalms and prayer.
Treasurer’s Report, Linda Curtis Actual income is up, due to receipt of Payroll Protection money ($49,667). Actual expenses for May were less than budgeted. Required information for the auditor is ready, and Linda reported that the audit will commence soon. She reminded Vestry that the Diocese expects Vestry to respond to the audit and report to the Diocese on which recommendations Vestry will pursue.
Vestry minutes of 5/18/21 were corrected and accepted.
Rector’s Report, The Reverend Samantha Vincent-Alexander Samantha is on sabbatical.
Assistant Rector’s Report, The Reverend Mark Riley
Upcoming Week: Between Thursday, June 17 and Thursday, June 24, there will be three funerals and a baptism at St. John’s.
Communications Position: Leigh Smith, the new communications assistant, began working at St. John’s.
Summer Schedule: Last Sunday, 13 people attended the outdoor 10:45 service. Of those, four people were new to St. John’s. This service will continue for now, and Mark will watch attendance numbers.
Vacation: Mark is looking at taking vacation time at the end of July, and will keep Vestry informed about his plans.
Senior Warden’s Report, Charlie Edmonson Charlie is planning to schedule the installation of the Confederate Memorial plaques sometime next week so as not to interfere with this week’s funerals.
Junior Warden’s Report, Bettyrene Pope Church A/C: Warwick Mechanical was back to look at the church A/C unit. This very unique unit needs a new part to be built, which will take seven weeks to complete.
Brickwork: Repointing of bricks, including filling gaps on the handicap ramp, has been completed for $10,500.
Parking Lot: Someone came to look at the parish house parking lot to develop a proposal for paving. Bettyrene also discussed the possibility of a new water line and conduit for a parking lot/playground light.
There will not be a July Vestry meeting.
