- The Vestry met on August 14 with ten Vestry members present and the Reverend Skip Hutton. The Reverend Donna-Mae Siderius presided.
- The checking account balance as of August 14 was $11,501.80.
- July income was $34,471.99 and expenses were $42,764.23. With 59% of the year complete, total pledge and plate offering is at 59.38%. Pledge income is at 49.93%. Expenditures are at 56.24%. Income and expenditures are on target.
- John Siderius, Director of Music, presented his plans for Chorister participation this year. A detailed brochure regarding the program will be mailed to those parents who express an interest in having their child participate. It is not necessary to be a member of St. John’s to participate. Concerts in the community and an annual trip are planned.
- Harper Lewis, newly hired Director of Youth Ministries and Christian Education, gave an overview of her plans for this year. Christian Education will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings with an intergenerational music segment. A new curriculum, Live B.I.G., is planned for the elementary grade children. Children’s Chapel will use a portion of the Live B.I.G. curriculum. Teachers are being recruited for all classes. Sandy Smith and Frances Klovstad have committed to teaching again this year. Two intergenerational programs are planned for the congregation. The EYC will continue to meet monthly with a meal, worship, music and a program. In addition, there will be a monthly “fun” event.
- Bettyrene Pope is organizing training for Christian Education teachers for September 5.
- Emily Hogg has committed to serving in the nursery this year. There must be at least two individuals present, so other volunteers are needed. If interested, contact Bettyrene Pope.
- John Chiasson, Junior Warden, has been busy as usual with repairs and general maintenance.
- Thanks to Betsy Clark and Dave Foster for helping to resolve some computer issues.
- Vestry approved a proposed contract by Saunders Painting Company for painting and general repairs to the Hoffman House, with payment from the Hoffman House account.
- The Stewardship theme this year will be “Let the Story Continue” in conjunction with our ongoing preparation for our 2010 anniversary celebration. Betsy Clark, chair of the Stewardship Committee, is recruiting members for the Committee. A Stewardship dinner is planned for October 20.
- Skip Hutton’s lecture series on the history of St. John’s will resume in September.
- Skip Hutton will present Foundations of Faith during Adult Formation on Sundays beginning in September. This course is required for all those seeking confirmation, but is an excellent course for anyone.
- Christian Education Kick-Off Sunday will be September 16, beginning with a parish breakfast. The J2A group will report on their trip to Belize. The Tom Cats will perform during the 10:30 service.
- Ann Bane, City of Hampton Schools, gave a presentation on the Faith and School Partnership initiative on Sunday, August 12. Of the approximately 60 parishioners who attended, 20 have signed up to participate. Greta Harrison is our coordinator.
- Phyllis Scarlett, with Kelly Services, will serve as interim Parish Administrator until a permanent Parish Administrator is hired.
- An informational brochure about St. John’s will be included in the welcome bags the City is preparing to distribute to the residents of the new apartment complex across the street from our parish. We hope some of the new residents will choose to join us in worship.
- The Vestry elected Bob Harper, Whit McKinney, Kay Olson, and Bettyrene Pope to serve as delegates to Special Council on October 6, 2007 and Annual Council in February 2008. Greg Brauer and Terri McKinney were elected to serve as alternates.
- Chuck Zimmerman passed the Vestry light, with a poem, to Connie Heath. The Mission Tacky Light was passed from Whit McKinney to Donna-Mae Siderius. Donna-Mae said this is the first time anyone passed her the light!
