A special meeting of the vestry of St. John’s Church, Elizabeth City Parish, Hampton, Virginia was held on June 14, 2001, at 7 P.M. in the Parish House.
Regular vestry members present were Marian Blount; Nelson T. Durden, Registrar; Billie P. Einselen, Senior Warden; Robert Harper; Hansi Haufler; Richard Hayes; Connie Heath, Treasurer; Vestal Lewis; Mary Ellen Sawyer; Eric Stewart; William L. Terrill, Junior Warden; and Leo Vaisvil.
Absent were Linda Lashley, Bill Mace and Bettyrene Pope.
Guests attending were the Reverend John Eidam, consultant for the Search Committee; Rick Harman, Chairman of the Finance Committee; and P. Warren Spratley, retired Treasurer of the Church.
Billie Einselen, Senior Warden, presiding, stated that the reason for the meeting was to discuss the refusal by the candidate for Rector to accept the salary offer of the Vestry approved at the regular Vestry meeting of June 12, 2001. Every other part of the offer was acceptable to the candidate. The Senior Warden reported on her conversation with the candidate.
Rick Harman gave the revised recommendation of the Finance Committee on the package to be offered to the candidate:

Much discussion followed. A motion was made, seconded and passed that the salary and housing figure be increased to $68,000.00, including utilities, for a total package of approximately $97,588.00.
During a brief recess, the Senior Warden contacted the candidate who accepted the following package:
