Weddings

A Sacred Beginning

Because St. John’s is first and foremost a parish church, weddings are celebrated for couples connected to our congregation. We therefore require that at least one member of the couple be an active member of the parish.

Clergy Officiation

All weddings at St. John’s are officiated by our clergy. At least one party should be a baptized Christian. Please contact us at least six months in advance to begin planning.

Pre-Marital Preparation

Our clergy require a series of pre-marital conversations as part of wedding preparation. This is not onerous — it’s a gift to the couple.

Music

Our Director of Music is available to assist with wedding music. Use of the Parsons organ and our choir can be arranged for an additional fee.

Fees

Facility fees vary depending on the spaces used. A detailed fee schedule is available from the parish office.

Policies & Practicalities

How far in advance should I inquire?

For weddings, we request at least six months’ notice. For concerts and other events, one month is preferred. Shorter lead times may be possible depending on availability — contact us to ask.

Is alcohol permitted on the premises?

Wine and beer are permitted at receptions held in the Parish Hall with prior approval. All alcohol service must comply with diocesan policies and Virginia ABC regulations.

Can we use an outside caterer?

Yes. Outside caterers are welcome and must be licensed and insured.

Is the building accessible?

Yes. All of our buildings are wheelchair accessible, and there are hearing aid devices in the sanctuary. Please notify us of any specific accessibility needs when making your inquiry.

What is the parking situation?

There is parking all around the church, with handicap parking near the entrance, plus street and public parking nearby. For large events we recommend coordinating with guests in advance.
