Vestry Meeting, April 21, 2026

The Vestry of St. John’s Church, Elizabeth City Parish, was called to order on April 21, 2026, at 6:37 p.m. by Rev. Lisa Erdeljon. Present were Scott Curtis – Senior Warden, Bettyrene Pope – Junior Warden, Ellen Griffith – Registrar, Wendy Cumming, Bob Harper, Anne Rutherford, Jon Wallner, Dory Holder, and Rev Lisa Erdeljon. Andrew Mackey and Linda Curtis – Treasurer were absent.

The meeting opened at 6:37p.m. with a prayer.

Ascertainment of Quorum: A quorum was present.

Approval of Agenda: A motion was made by Lisa Erdeljon to amend the minutes to add the Parochial Report under the Rector’s Report. Seconded by Ellen Griffith. The motion was approved unanimously. A motion was made by Anne Rutherford to approve the agenda as amended. Seconded by Wendy Cumming. The motion was approved unanimously.

Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Scott Curtis to approve the minutes as amended. Seconded by Bob Harper. The motion was approved unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report, Linda Curtis

Pledges are ahead and non-pledges are behind.

Expenses are high due to first quarter pledge being paid, guest musicians for Palm Sunday, and Outreach transfers.

As authorized at the March Vestry meeting, Linda met with Towne Trust and moved $300,000 into a money market account.

A motion was made by Ellen Griffith to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Seconded by Bob Harper. The motion was approved unanimously.

Senior Warden’s Report, Scott Curtis

Junior Warden’s Report, Bettyrene Pope

The door closer on the Parish House door to the church was replaced. Chairs are being cleaned and the kitchen floor was cleaned. Church HVAC was fixed as it did not work on Easter morning.

Rector’s Report, Rev. Lisa Erdeljon

The Parochial Report needs to be sent to the Diocese.

A motion was made by Anne Rutherford to approve the Parochial Report as written. Seconded by Bettyrene Pope. The motion was approved unanimously.

The cruise was great, travel plans in June/July time frame, something in September, and then will travel for Thanksgiving weekend.

We had a great Easter Season, lots of upcoming plans. Easter Sunday had 273 people attend across the 2 services.

  • May 17 – Music Sunday
  • May 24 – Pentecost
  • June 1 – Parish Picnic

We will stick with 2 services through the summer and not go down to a single service.

The job description that was put together during the February Vestry meeting attached to the agenda.

Mary Williams has agreed to pay $150,000 towards the Curate position, of which $100,000 has been received.

A motion was made by Lisa Erdeljon to go into closed session at 7:43. Seconded by Bob Harper. The motion was approved unanimously.

A motion was made by Scott Curtis to end the closed session at 8:09. Seconded by Anne Rutherford. The motion was approved unanimously.

Wendy Cumming shared that her aunt and former parishioner Sally Darling died this morning.

A motion was made by Scott Curtis to adjourn the meeting at 8:24. Seconded by Bob Harper. The motion was approved unanimously.
