The Vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City Parish, was called to order on June 18, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. Present were: Senior Warden Bill Beach, Registrar Lynn Kirkland, Darden Barrett, Ellen Griffith, Ron Kindley, Brad Norris, Bettyrene Pope. Absent: Linda Curtis, Scott Curtis, Jay Hogg and Jim Klotz
The meeting opened at 6:30 p.m. with a prayer.
A presentation was made by James Shoemaker on what the Mary Williams Trust covers (church building, parish house and cemetery walls). The trust is valued at approximately 7.5 million dollars. Charlie Edmonson made a presentation on the archeological dig overseen by Alan Outlaw at the Hampton University site. There will be an open house of the site in August. This dig is paid for by the Mary Williams Trust. Attorney Pat McDermott advises the trust committee.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the May meeting were approved.
Treasurer’s Report, Linda Curtis: Linda was absent and Bill Beach reported that things were going in the right direction. We are expecting $92,000.00 coming from the Endowment Fund and the Mary Williams Trust reimbursed the church for the cost of the new HVAC system in the Hoffman House. See attached budget reports.

Warden Reports
- Senior Warden – Bill Beach – The following is the summer worship schedule:
- 6/23/24 – Mary Thorpe (New Canon of the Ordinary)
- 8/4/24 – Willis Foster
- Bill will be out of the country 7/24/24-8/15/24 and Bettyrene will cover during his absence. Funerals will be covered by the Bishop’s Office if need be.
- Lisa will arrive 8/11/24 and a welcoming committee of the Vestry and Inreach will be established and overseen by Bettyrene. Bill would like to have in place a standard of operating procedures compiled to make her transition easier.
- Charlie Edmonson will be in charge of Morning Prayer
- Bill’s signature has been added for the Discretionary Fund
- Bill would like to schedule a meeting for Lisa with the financial team and chairman from all trust and endowment funds
- Bob Harper will oversee the Lil Pantry
- There will not be a Vestry meeting during the month of July
- Junior Warden – Bettyrene Pope
- The table and chair storage closet is complete.
- A fitting repair for a busted pipe in the basement was made
- A urinal in the men’s bathroom of the parish house has been repaired
- The grass was cut on the playground but a safety inspection still needs to be conducted
- Bettyrene will look into purchasing a new digital safe for Altar Guild with funds donated by parish member
