The vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City Parish, was called to order on April 16, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. Present were: Treasurer Linda Curtis, Junior Warden Jay Hogg, Registrar Lynn Kirkland, Darden Barrett, Ron Kindley, Jim Klotz, Brad Norris, Elizabeth Zimmerman, and The Reverend Mark Riley. Absent: Senior Warden Bill Beach and Anne Abraham
The meeting opened at 6:30 p.m. with a prayer.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the March meeting were approved.
Treasurer’s Report, Linda Curtis: There is currently $300,000.00 in checking because we do not have a rector at this time. Expenses are under what was budgeted. See attached budget reports.
Rector’s Report: On Hold
Associate Rector’s Report, The Reverend Mark Riley
- Summary/update since last meeting – Sunday Updates and Holy Week – Mid January we were in triple digits for Sunday attendance and Holy Week we had a 21% higher attendance rate. Easter numbers were the same as last year. Numbers remain positive.
- Annual Meeting – April 21, 2024, may need some extra hands. The meeting will be held in the church after the 9:00 service. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
- Recent Energy and Refocus Updates – Positive energy continues to build. June 9, 2024 is Music Sunday and June 16, 2024 is Father’s Day and the Parish Picnic.
- Volunteer/Service Update: Engaging Volunteers discussion. Implement a Parish House Welcome Center
- Racial Healing Workshop: Headcount and Scheduling – Two staff members need to attend.
- Reporting on Lenten Noonday and Upcoming Holy Week – An individual that attended the Holy Week activities is now attending church on Sundays and bringing their grandson.
- Seminarian from Ireland: Joshua Pringle will bring his brother Adam with him for his 3 week visit.
Warden Reports
- Senior Warden, Bill Beach – Absent, No report
- Junior Warden, Jay Hogg –
- Water Leak – After much investigation, it appears to be a meter issue.
- The water heater under the church has been replaced.
- Sacristy Safe – Jay will call again for a quote for a new safe or replacing the dial with a digital keypad.
- WACO starts the 2 day tear out of the closet on 5/13/24. David White will be on standby to rebuild the floor and paint. The job will take maybe 2 weeks to complete.
