The vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City Parish, was called to order on August 15, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. Present were: Senior Warden Bill Beach, Registrar Lynn Kirkland, Treasurer Linda Curtis, Anne Abraham, Darden Barrett, Ron Kindley (via telephone), Jim Klotz, Brad Norris, Elizabeth Zimmerman, The Reverend Mark Riley and The Reverend Samantha Vincent-Alexander. Absent: Junior Warden Jay Hogg
The meeting opened at 6:35 p.m. with a prayer
Treasurer’s Report, Linda Curtis
Linda presented the budget. See attached. We are ahead on pledges at this time and we have not had to move money from the reserve.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the June meeting were approved.
Discussion with Canon Roy Hoffman
A discussion was held with Canon Roy Hoffman on the process of transitioning.
Rector’s Report, The Reverend Samantha Vincent-Alexander
Communion – Bishop Susan Haynes has issued guidelines for the offering of Holy Communion post-COVID. See attached. We will use the remainder of the individual sealed containers of bread and wine and then we will return to one bread, one cup and intinction. The guideline will be incorporated into Sunday’s bulletin.
Contact for Nursery Worker – A contact person is needed for our nursery workers. Jim will ask Emily and Samantha will ask Denine Miller.
Racial Healing Workshop – The Bishop is going to require that the Vestry complete this course. It is offered online via Zoom or by a 1 day in-person event. Dates are TBD
Vestry Retreat is cancelled – Bill will contact CHANCO to see if we can get our deposit back.
Associate Rector’s Report, The Reverend Mark Riley
Blood Drive – A blood drive has been scheduled for November 2, 2023. We will look at ways to promote the drive.

Patrick submitted a proposal for new computers. He would like a new monitor. Computers won’t need to be replaced until 2025.
