The Vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City Parish, was called to order on August 25, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Fort Magruder Inn in Williamsburg after conclusion of St. John’s Vestry retreat. Present were members Ruth Simmons, Stephen Rous, The Reverend Samantha Vincent-Alexander, The Reverend Mark Riley, Pat Dennehey, Senior Warden Bob Harper, Bill Brown, Junior Warden Whiting Chisman Jr., and Charlie Edmonson.
The purpose of meeting is to act on several proposals presented by Junior Warden Whiting Chisman Jr.
Minutes from July 17, 2018 were presented and reviewed. Stephen Rous moved to accept the minutes. Junior Warden Whiting Chisman Jr. seconded the motion. Motion was approved.
Rector’s Report
With several Vestry members being away for the September 16th meeting it was decided to move the meeting date to September 25th.
Whiting Chisman Jr. brought up the following:
Meeting of Reverend Samantha Vincent- Alexander, Bettyrene Pope, Larry Cumming, and Jr. Warden Whiting Chisman Jr. with a representative of Insurance Company of Vermont to discuss St. John’s insurance coverage. A motion was made by Jr. Warden Whiting Chisman Jr. to reduce the churches Umbrella Insurance coverage from 20 million dollars to 10 million dollars. Charlie Edmonson seconded the motion. Vote was called and motion passed.
Request from Bettyrene Pope to have all of the church’s stained glass windows appraised at a cost of $250.00. Bill Brown made a motion to proceed with this request. Charlie Edmonson seconded. Vote was called and motion passed.
With regard to flood insurance need for elevation certificates for the church and parish house. Hoffman house will also be included. Cost to obtain these certificates for the parish house and church is $400.00 each. Q Design will handle this matter. We cannot get a quote for flood insurance without these certificates. Bill Brown made a motion to proceed with this action and Jr. Warden Whiting Chisman Jr. seconded. Vote was called and motion passed.
Reverend Mark Riley wanted bring attention to how nice the stained glass windows are look with the cleaning so far.
Charlie Edmonson reported that he was getting the paper work done for work to be done at 2 of St. Johns earlier sites for $100.00.
Bill Brown passed along Duncan Garnett’s desire to learn more about the Consortium of Endowment of Episcopal Parishes and to see if St. John’s wished to join. Stephen Rous spoke with the Executive Director of CEEP, Joseph Swimmer about further discussion. Mr. Swimmer had said he would be willing to come down and speak to the Vestry in either November or December. After some discussion the Vestry asked Stephen Rous to ask Mr. Swimmer if he would be willing to come and talk to our Vestry.
The meeting concluded at 2:30 pm.
