Charles Edmonson, senior warden, called the vestry of St. John‘s Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City Parish to order August 26 26, 2014. Present were Linda Curtis, treasurer, Kay Olson, registrar, George Cornwell, Vestal Lewis, Kevin Eley Doug Miller, Valerie Bowen and Ann Templeman, absent were Dan Clark and Sylvia Edgar.
Kay Olson open the meeting with a Psalm and prayer.
Minutes of the June meeting were approved as printed. Motion by Ann Templeman second by Kevin Eley.
Financial Report: Linda Curtis reported pledges through July are down almost $10,000.00, but expenses are being met on time. The financial report is attached to these minutes.
There is one office space in the Hoffman Building for rent. The church may qualify for a tax break for the Hoffman House property if the space is utilized for church business.
The Dioceses of Southern Virginia is requesting financial audits be conducted by September 1, we do have about 2 more months to complete audit and submit to the Dioceses. The Auditors are to be three (3) non-vestry members; they will need to meet twice to determine what documents need to be included in the audit. Names suggested to be the auditors are Rick Bagley, Jim Shoemaker, Sr. and Frank Edgar, Jr.
Rector’s Report: Samantha Vincent-Alexander reported that Vacation Bible School was a success and fun for the children. The two service schedule will begin on September 7.
September 14 she will do a “Blessing of the Backpacks” during the 10:30am service. This date will also be the beginning of the Christian Formation classes with a “Kick off” breakfast to be after the 8 am service. The Inreach Committee will host the breakfast.
Senior Warden’s Report: Charlie Edmonson reported the Mutual Ministry Review will be held on September 30, 2014 in the parish house.
A “Certificate of Satisfaction” has been received from the court for the Hoffman House property.
Ann Edgar, Susan Edmonson and Carrie Quinn have been asked to lead efforts to redecorate the Stage in the Parish House.
Linda Curtis has volunteered to organize “Parish House use Policies” for renting the parish house space for parties or receptions. Need to find out if a Certificate of Insurance needs to be filed with the rental contract.
Ann Edgar is now the Wedding Planner for the use of the church and or parish house for weddings.
