Charles Edmonson, senior warden, called the vestry of St. John‘s Episcopal Church, Elizabeth City Parish to order at 6:30 pm November 19, 2013. Present were Dan Clark, junior warden, Linda Curtis, treasurer, Kay Olson, registrar, Brian McMahon, Carrie Quinn, Bill Brown, Sylvia Edgar, George Cornwell, and Vestal Lewis and Guest Linda McMahon. Clergy Present The Reverend Samantha Vincent-Alexander. Absent were Kevin Eley and youth representative Thomas Templeman.
Carrie Quinn opened the meeting with prayer, Carrie also provided refreshments.
Minutes of the October were approved with one addition (add “a copy of David Edmonson’s letter is attached to the October minutes.”)
Reports: Treasurer Linda Curtis; there are no printed October finance reorts for this meeting. Plate offering was up last Sunday November 17. The Finance committee is working on the 2014 budget and hope to present it for the December meeting.
Another parishioner has made a loan of $8,000.00 toward the budget deficit, terms and conditions are the same as the previous loans. Of the existing loans 2 will be renewed, one is to be applied to the lenders 2014 pledge and one is to be repaid to the lender.
Stewardship: The stewardship report is attached to these minutes.
Renovation: The renovation report is attached to these minutes.
Building and grounds: Dan Clark reported routine maintenance has been done, e.g. bleeding of radiators and replacement of light bulbs.
Rector’s report: Samantha reported she is trying to revise the wedding and funeral procedures to make it easier and more cohesive for her and the office staff. Carrie Quinn and Linda Curtis volunteered to look over what is on hand and offer suggestions for the revisions.
She would like a portable screen to use in the stage meeting area.
Samantha summarized her first month as rector.
Junior Warden: No report presented.
Senior Warden reported that Samantha and Debra Carr have obtained health insurance during the open enrollment time frame.
The Diocese of Southern Virginia has requested the Parish submit its diocesan pledge for 2014. The vestry will postpone a decision until we are presented with the 2014 parish budget.
Old Business
Brian McMahon presented a revised version of the Parish Profile to the members of vestry for review, a vote will be taken at the December meeting to either accept the revised edition or retire the Parish Profile.
New Business
Brian McMahon gave a report on Nights Welcome, The vestry will provide a breakfast meal, Charlie will be the team leader for the breakfast meal and a dinner meal, Kay Olson will be team leader of the dinner meal.
Discussion was held concerning the election of new vestry members after the first of the year. A date for the annual meeting has not been set.
The Celebration of New Ministry for Samantha was discussed, possible date will be in February. Samantha will contact the Bishop to see when he is free to conduct the celebration.
Carrie Quinn closed the meeting with prayer.
