The regular meeting of the vestry of St John’s Church, Elizabeth City Parish, Hampton, Virginia was held at the parish house on April 8, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. The Reverend Donna-Mae Siderius, Rector presided.
Vestry members present were: Nelson Durden, Frank Edgar, Sr., Bob Harper: Senior Warden, Connie Heath; Treasurer, Hansi Haufler, Bill Mace, Bettyrene Pope; Registrar, and Mary Ellen Sawyer .
Absent members were Bill Kirkland, Elizabeth Phillips, Jim Shoemaker, Eric Stewart and Bill Terrill; Junior Warden.
Also present were Susan and David Copley.
Donna-Mae led us in prayer and devotion entitled Once in A While.
An interview was held with Susan and David Copley for the positions of Assistant Rectors at St. John’s. A short recess was held at the conclusion of the interview.
Upon reconvening the meeting, discussion and conversation ensued about the interview. Bill Mace moved that we call Susan and David Copley to be our Assistant Rectors. It was seconded. The vote was taken and the motion passed. Donna-Mae will contact them to let them know of our decision.
A committee of Hansi Haufler, Nelson Durden, and Bob Harper approved the minutes of the March meeting.
Connie Heath, Treasurer gave her report. The income for the month of March was $31,192.00. The current checking account balance is $36,269.27.
Vacation Bible School is scheduled for July 28 – August 2, 2003.
The Copleys will be ordained at Galilee Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach at 11:00 am on June 14, 2003.
Donna-Mae needs volunteers to help design a program and setup for the Annual Meeting on Sunday, May 4th. Bob Harper, Frank Edgar, Elizabeth Phillips and Mary Ellen Sawyer will help.
The Vestry Retreat will be held at Camp Chanco on Friday, May 16th and Saturday, May 17th. Confirmation of your attendance can be sent by e-mail to the office.
Good of the Parish- Harper Lewis sent a proposal to the vestry about the need of a paper folder machine to replace the forty year old one now being used. Bettyrene moved that money be taken from the Memorial Fund to purchase a new machine. It was seconded. After discussion, a vote was taken and the motion passed.
Silver Communion Service- The City of Hampton will have Traveler’s Insurance determine a value of the silver. The City Attorney will review the paperwork and our Committee will decide approval.
Hill Riddle, the first Assistant Rector at St. John’s is retiring.
The Tacky Light Award from Nelson Durden was given to Hansi Haufler.
Following a closing prayer by all, the meeting was adjourned.
